Owen Murphy brings a strong financial background to his position as vice president of taxation at Anglogold Ashanti, a global gold mining company headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In this role, Mr. Murphy oversees the administration of Anglogold Ashanti’s payroll tax and manages the company's local and international tax responsibilities. Along with restructuring holdings and offshore portfolios and liaising with local regional tax professionals, he carries out research in transfer pricing as it relates to cross-border financing.
Mr. Murphy has more than three decades of experience in the field of tax law and corporate finance. Before joining Anglogold Ashanti in 2001, he structured risk procedures and negotiated ISDA agreements as a financial manager with Gold Fields. In addition, he served the electronics manufacturer Altron in positions including group treasurer and tax manager. Mr. Murphy started his career in 1979 as a tax assessor for the Receiver of Revenue in Cape Town and went on to hold tax roles with Old Mutual and Ernst and Whinney.
Active in the professional community, Mr. Murphy is affiliated with the International Fiscal Association and the Chamber of Mines of South Africa. He holds a Higher Diploma in tax law and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Cape Town.
